Essential Information

Altitude Sickness

Jalori Pass is at 3,120m. If coming from plains, arrive a day early in Jibhi or Shoja to acclimatize. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol on the first day, and ascend slowly. Common symptoms include headache and mild fatigue.

Mobile Network

BSNL has the best coverage at Jalori Pass and surrounding areas. Airtel and Jio work well in Jibhi and Shoja but can be patchy at the pass and on trails. Download offline maps before you go.

Money & Banking

No ATMs at Jalori Pass, Shoja, or Jibhi. Nearest ATMs are in Banjar (25 km) and Aut. Carry enough cash. Some shops in Jibhi accept UPI/Google Pay but do not rely on it.

Permits

No permits needed for Jalori Pass, Serolsar Lake, or Raghupur Fort treks. Only the Great Himalayan National Park requires a separate entry permit (available at Sai Ropa gate).

Local Food

Try Siddu (stuffed steamed bread), Rajma Chawal, Babru (fried stuffed bread), and fresh trout from Tirthan River. Tea stalls at the pass serve hot chai and Maggi. Jibhi has diverse cafe options.

Safety Tips

Inform your hotel before trekking. Start early and return before dark. Stay on marked trails. Carry a whistle and basic first aid. Check weather before heading out. The area is generally safe for solo travelers.
